OBJECTS OF REGULATED MARKET COMMITTEE

Agriculture Marketing is the key to economic development of the farmers as well as that of rural economy. Growth and sustenance of Agricultural Productivity depends largely on the market behavior and amenities and facilities available for marketing of the produce. The problem of Agricultural Marketing both for the perishables and non perishables is vast. It starts right from beginning of the quality of seeds and fertilizers used for the production and down to post harvest grading and standardization, storage, transport, processing, marketing credit & marketing of the produce.

         It is in the background of the above, Regulated Market Committees in West Bengal setup under the provision of West Bengal Agricultural Produce Marketing (Regulation) Act, 1972 have embarked upon plans & programs to facilitate organized marketing of Agricultural product by creating several infrastructural facilities like setting up of well laid out market yard with Auction Platform (Both covert & uncover), Godowns, Bailing Press, Cattle Shed, Farmers Rest house with Locker (Kishan Bhavan), Internal Path Ways, Car & Cart Parking, Administrative Building, Drinking & Urinals, Link Roads etc. from fund raised through collection of market levy upon transaction of Agricultural Produce.

         Govt. of West Bengal has taken serious of initiatives to improve Agricultural Market infrastructures. The Govt. has constructed Krisak Bazars almost in all the Blocks to promote direct farmers selling of Agricultural Produces.

Regulated Market Committee viz (1) Cooch Behar Sadar Regulated Market Committee, (2) Dinhata Regulated Market Committee, (3) Tufanganj Regulated Market Committee, (4) Mathabbhanga Regulated Market Committee, (5) Mekhliganj Regulated Market Committee & (6) Haldibari Regulated Market Committee have been dissolved vied notification no. 1360-AM/P/5A-17/2013, Dated- Kolkata, the 17th October 2014.
